DNP 820 What effect does a meta-synthesis or meta-analysis have on research translation?
Evidence based research is part of health care. When it comes to research reviewing evidence is important to assure that enough research supports the practice within healthcare. Evidence pyramid is one that shows the relevancy and quality of the literature as you move up on the pyramid. “Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are situated at the top of what is known as the Evidence Pyramid. As you move up the pyramid the amount of available literature on a given topic decreases, but the relevancy and quality of that literature increases” (North Central University Library, 2022). Meta synthesis and meta-analysis is part of reviewing current practice, these types of research are found on top of the evidence pyramid which means that they are relevant and are considered of high-quality research.
Meta synthesis is a systematic review, and it integrates findings from qualitative research. Meta synthesis is a technique in medical research, and it can be used in many different methods. Meta analyses are found in systematic reviews. “Meta-analyses are statistically stronger than the analysis of any single study, due to increased numbers of subjects, greater diversity among subjects, or accumulated effects and results” (North Central University Library, 2022). Meta synthesis and meta-analyses are both used in research and are considered relevant and high quality.
Meta synthesis and meta-analyses are used in practice and can be found in research to improve research quality and future research as well. “Multidisciplinary collaboration significantly improved the quality of meta-analysis reporting” (Hou, et al., 2017). Multidisciplinary team approaches are found all thought nursing and health care. It can be found in the hospital in which we all work together from the nurses, doctors, patients, and dietary. While in case management, it’s the same way, we all work together with the providers to assist our injured worker to return to work. Other ways Meta synthesis and meta-analyses are both used in practice include guideline reporting, computer science to improve ability of research, and improvement of research studies (Hou, et al., 2017). With research, reviewing evidence is important, evidence pyramid is used to show relevancy of research. Meta synthesis and meta-analyses are used in practice and are considered relevant and high-quality research. Both are essential in evidence based practice.
